Diving in Negombo – a pleasure pursuit for the hedonist

Negombo is a seaside resort that is the first a visitor to the island of Sri Lanka would see. A swift drive from the Bandaranaike International Airport, it is often the first place tourists come to or the last place before they leave the island. The beaches in Sri Lanka are by far its best asset and Negombo offers sands that are bronzed to perfection and kissed by the sun. The canal and lagoon are also a great respite from the beach. During the Dutch colonization, cinnamon was extremely popular and traded from Negombo. The fort remains as a reminder of its colonial roots.

Diving in the Indian Ocean is a heartwarming experience. Those who enjoy water sports will enjoy the ideal setting to work on a tan and partake in some heart pumping action. In Negombo one can enjoy the wind of the ocean and the wind that flows over the river. Those who enjoy diving beneath the surface of the water and watching marine life will be thrilled with the experiences on offer in Negombo.

There are twelve dive spots in Negombo to look out for – Divamba Gala, Derena Gala, Muttiyah Gala, Thanthiri Gala, Lobster Reef, Standard Reef, Ahas Yatra Gala, Bandara Rock, Barracuda Point, Hanova, Adams Peak & Route 66.
