The entire Maldivian Archipelago can be divided into three different surf areas, namely Male Atolls, Central and South Atolls. The best breaks for surfing are on the southeaster n sides of the atolls. Many of the surfing spots are close to each other and the best way to reach them is by boat. The Male Atoll can be quite well populated but the Central and South Atolls will give you more privacy as they are not crowded like Male Atoll.

Male Atoll has many surfing spots which are fairly consistent and this is especially so in the prime summer months April – October. March and November can be extremely good for surfing even though they are considered to be transitional months. Chickens, Coke, Honkys and Gurus are some of the great surfing spots in the Male Atoll.

The Maldivian South Atolls are still the last frontier for surfers. The surf spots can be accessed only by charter boats. The Southern Atolls have an extended surfing season from February to November. Special government permits are required for boats to travel to this area. Antiques, Beacons and Castaways are three of the best surfing spots here.

The Central Atolls have a number of world class breaks and Muli, Adonis and Mikado are excellent surf spots in this area.
