Thai boxing – the country’s national sport

In order to truly understand the culture and lifestyle of a country, one has to be familiar with all aspects of its culture and amongst these diverse aspects sports and games hold a special place of significance displaying the aspirations, values and strengths of a society. For any visitor to Thailand who is interested in sports a local boxing session would be a great opportunity to see the locals in their true spirit.
Thai boxing or better known as Muay Thai is also considered to be the national sport of this country and it has its roots going far back into history to the times of ancient battle field tactics of the Siamese army. The game is considered to be King of the Ring amongst the many boxing circles. These fights feature a number of movements such as kicks, punches, knees, elbows, head-butts and even standing grappling beat the opponent by knocking him out.

The sport has been made famous over various channels on TV but the adrenaline pumping kicks and falls as well as its other aspects are even more exciting to watch live while it is performed right in front of massive audiences that scream and shout all in unison. What is more, there are drum beats and cymbals that sound throughout the match adding more color and vigor to the already happening match. The styles adopted in this game are not just useful as a game but also as a self defense style and there are a number of places in the city where matches take place thus, making them easily accessible for the interested visitor. These events take place almost every night at stadiums and attract large crowds and the accompanying music is a must experience. For anyone not afraid of the drama and violence of the kicks this would be quite an event to remember.
Amongst the many a Samui resort,  Anantara Bophut, Koh Samui is one luxurious Samui hotel that a traveller can choose to stay and come back for relaxation and luxury after an exhilarating evening  watching a competition of Muay Thai in the city.
