Mong Kok Stadium was earlier popular as the Army Sports Ground which hosts many football matches including international, first division league and cup competitions. The stadium is currently under the management of Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department and was earlier run by the Urban Council for Management until 1961. After Autumn 2009 the Mong Kok Stadium underwent a sequence of renovation and modifications like a new roof, refurbished seats, lighting, changing rooms, doping rooms, press rooms, close circuit T.Vs and much more. The Stadium after its restructuring activities was reopened on the 16th of October 2011 with the participation of the Minister of Home Affairs in Hong Kong Mr. Tsang Tak-Sing followed by a friendly football match with the Russian National Youth Team. After 13 years an international football match was played in the newly restored stadium, HSBC Asian Five Nations as planned by the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union. On the day of the re-opening ceremony a sport towel, a souvenir was gifted to the spectators to make the day a meaningful one. The ceremony was brought to light with vibrant performances like the lion dances and wushu dances to add a Chinese flavor, delightful acts by cheer leaders and the Hong Kong police band.
