Diving off Cocoa Corner!

As an archipelago of islands, the Maldives comprises mainly of a large sea based extent than land extent. Of this land extent, most of the islands are wide spread and the sea in between varies in depth. With a large coral reef surrounding various parts of the islands, the weather, current and habitat atmosphere within the peripheries of the islands form ideal places for many of the seas’ beautiful creations, be it coral fish, large predators or sea flora and fauna.

With so much sea space to choose from, divers would be spoilt for choice, however Cocoa Corner situated at the North end of Biyaadhoo Kandu is an extremely popular and magnificent dive site if you are an enthusiast and don’t want to miss out on spectacular underwater sites.

The Cocoa Corner is essentially a dive site off a reef and is set apart from other sites due to the ability to enjoy the same site in different ways depending on the current and other conditions. A depth of around 25 – 29 meters is ideally maintained with around 40 meters from the edge and if current conditions are right, divers can make their way easily to Kandooma Thila as well.

When going into the Thila, if divers were to maintain their depth management, a longer dive period could be enjoyed. Grey Reef Sharks are abundant; both large parent species as well as babies. Apart from this Jack Fish, Eagle Rays, Napoleons, and even Sea turtles, grey tips and white tips can also be found.

This dive site is not for the faint of heart and the amateur diver as the current can be relatively strong.
