F1 Singapore 2011 – Setting the Streets of Singapore Ablaze

The Formula One circus visits Singapore once again during the end of September. The fastest cars on the planets will take on the streets of the country in three hundred kilometres of fast, action packed, adrenaline pumping racing.

The championship leader Sebastian Vettel has the chance to wrap up the championship here this time around. Following his dominant win in Italy and overall strong performance the whole year around, no one can argue that he is the favourite and in many ways the only contender for the championship. However if last year’s championship is anything to go by, the race for the title is far from being decided. Possible challengers include double world champion Fernando Alonso driving for Ferrari and the two McLaren drivers Button and Hamilton.

The Singapore Grand Prix is unique in that it was the world’s first ever night race. Subsequently Abu Dhabi also adopted this and now there are two such races on the Formula One calendar. However what sets this race apart from other races is the ambience created around the main race; the atmosphere in the stands is just electric with the backdrop of tall modern buildings and the breathtaking Singapore River. The track has just the right balance between technical difficulty and pure entertainment.

Though the race takes place on public roads, the Singapore Grand Prix has differentiated itself from other street circuits like Monaco and Valencia by having fast sweeping corners with plenty of overtaking opportunities instead of a tight twisty congested track. With the new tire manufacturer Pirelli offering some great racing treads combined with the new DRS Wing and KERS system, this year’s Singapore Grand Prix promises more action than ever before.

A number of events such as musical concerts, meet and greet events with the Formula One drivers and demonstrations are lined up in the week leading up to the race. Fans staying at a luxury hotel Singapore such as the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore will be able to witness the action up-close as they are literally on the cusp of the circuit. Many top hotels in Singapore have special packages designed for racing enthusiasts this time of year.
