The Phuket International Cricket Sixes has been held annually since 2004 and is Thailand’s biggest cricketing event. The series is held at Karon Stadium and each team consists of only six players. With the inviting waters of Karon Beach right next to it, you will often find players and spectators taking a dip in between matches just to cool off.
Each year, the tournament starts with the Kenny Jackson’s Beach Cricket Tournament held at Phuket beach. The game is a warm up to the actual tournament. This year the Kenny Jackson’s Beach Cricket Tournament will be held on the 14th of April. The main tournament starts the next day. The fun doesn’t stop after the end of play and the night will feature the Sixes Welcome Garden Party. If you are interested, you can go over to the Green Man Bar to attend the function. Some of the cricketers are bound to be there. The tournament lasts only a few days, at the end of which the Phuket Sixes Gala Awards Dinner will be held.
The Phuket Sixes is a part of the Asian Cricket Sixes and has quite a following, with teams from Australia and Bahrain taking part. If you love a good game of cricket then you can’t miss the affair. The sun, sand and sea make for a memorable time. And if you are not a fan, it still wouldn’t hurt taking a look as a match only lasts about 45 minutes. After which you can watch the sunset over the Andaman Sea.
