One of the United Arab Emirates’ seven emirates, Dubai is thought to have been established in 1799 by Sheikh Maktoum bin Buti al Maktoum. The emirate is by far the most westernised state in the Middle East and is a highly popular vacation spot. The X Games is a sporting event held annually by ESPN with a special focus on action sports. They were first held in 1995 at Rhode Island with participants competing for a medal position and prize money. The Winter X Games are held sometime during January or February, while the Summer X Games take place in August. The international X Games are a special edition first held in 1998.
In 2005, Dubai hosted the X Games marking it the first time the event was held in the Middle East. The event occurred between the 7th and 9th of December at the Dubai Creek Park. Over twenty thousand fans attended the three day event which featured around fourteen athletes hailing from six different countries showcasing Aggressive In-line Skate, Skateboard, Moto X and BMX Freestyle. The X Games returned to the emirate again in 2006. Once again the Dubai Creek Park served as the venue. This time spectators were treated to dazzling displays of acrobatics by twenty top athletes from around the world. 
Dubai’s exceptional infrastructure makes it ideal for global events. The public transport system in the emirate is top notch, with most areas being readily accessible by bus or train.
