History and way Forward of PGA TOUR – The Past and Future of the PGA Tour

Where the world of Golf is concerned, the PGA Tour is the biggest event regarding the game. The tour is based in Florida but games can take place in venues all over the United States and even South American locales such as Puerto Rico and Mexico. In addition to the main tour that takes place primarily in the United States, there are many various incarnations that occur all around the world, contributing to the popularity of Golf. In the present day, a Golf course can be found almost anywhere in the world. You can even find Golf courses in Johor, with examples like The Els Club Malaysia.
The PGA Tour was a creation of the ‘Professional Golfers’ Association of America’, but during the end of the 70s, it was turned into an entirely separate entity since the association’s focus was on club professional’s while the tour concerned itself with tour players.
The first tour began in 1929 and almost immediately there were disputes between the tour players and the club over purse amounts. The dispute resulted due to the recognition the tour gained and the added revenue. The PGA of America wished to invest the extra revenue in expanding the tour while the players demanded higher payments.
Presently the PGA Tour is a massive enterprise, with the organisation handling a variety of different tours all over the world in addition to the main tour. Television deals have been arranged all the way till 2021. The tour however is going through a small change. Since the usual PGA tour extends all the way to mid September, interest diminishes during that time since those months mark the start of the NFL and College Football seasons, which are more prominent sports. As a result, the PGA will conclude sometime in August, to make use of the time of peak viewership.

A Highlight on the History of Golf – an endearing sport that has spanned centuries

The game of Golf, once regarded as an elitist sport, has slowly spread all over the globe, to become one of the most popular sports ever. From its humble beginnings in Europe, it has made its way across continents and captured the hearts of many in Asia. Golf in Malaysia, for example, has spread to every corner of the country, with big championship level golf courses, like The Els Club Malaysia, earning international recognition.
However, there was a time when it wasn’t so loved; in fact, according to historians, it was even banned by the Scottish Parliament in the 1400’s because it was said to interfere with archery practice, which was necessary for protecting the land. The origins of the game of golf are vague and highly debated. Most believe it stems from ancient Rome, where a game called paganica, involved hitting a leather ball with a bent stick. While others cite a game called ‘chuiwan ‘in China as the root. A Ming Dynasty scroll depicts members of the imperial court hit small balls into holes with what appeared to be golf clubs. Whatever the origin, the modern version was created in Scotland and eventually spread throughout Europe.
The first known golf course on record is Musselburgh Links, in Scotland. The first courses were chiefly built across ‘link lands’, soil covered dunes that were located in front of beaches. This is where the term “links course” originates from, and is still used today to describe the same kinds of courses.
Golf is played according to strict guidelines that were put into place in 1754, with an underlying principle focusing on fairness throughout the game. In addition, there’s a set of guidelines known as golf etiquette which concerns safety, the pace of a game and a player’s responsibility to chip in to the maintenance of the course. Although there are no penalties for any etiquette breaches, players follow the rules to ensure everyone enjoys a good playing experience. This, at the end of the day, is all a golfer really wants from a game.

Uses and history of Golf Courses – taking a look at the gentleman’s game

Who invented the game of golf is unclear and disputed by many. However, what is clear is that it has grown to become one of the most popular sports in the world and is played by millions. Golf courses themselves have come a long way since their creation, with spectacular grounds built around the world. Asia is catching up to Europe, with its own selection of elite golf courses, like the three championship level courses at The Els Club Malaysia, for example, one of the most celebrated golf courses in Johor.
The history of the golf course is probably just as hazy as the sport itself, but the basics are still the same. A standard golf course consists of a series of holes, usually 9 or 18 holes are the most common number, along with a teeing ground, a rolling fairway, a couple of hazards like bunkers, and a flat green with a flagstick and hole. Many of the oldest courses are ‘links’; these link courses are usually constructed on raised ground or open parkland, and commonly feature sand dunes.
When it comes to the design of golf courses, it often flows with the original landscape, even so, in some cases, modifications are unavoidable. This seems to be the case with the new courses that have been built on sites with less desirable land. Most sand traps and bunkers are in most cases, artificial, while other hazards like ponds may be natural.
Designing the layout of a golf course is considered a separate field of architectural study from regular landscape design and in the United Sates, golf course architects even have their own private associations. In general, golf courses, whether private or publicly owned, will include a practice range, with separate greens, bunkers and driving ares for practice shots.

Desaru Coast – Experience the Magical Splendour of Malaysia’s Desaru Coast

Desaru Coast

Desaru Coast

Johor, located within the southern section of the Malaysian peninsular is one of the most developed areas in the region. It is also an area that is renowned as a tourist destination with many incredible locales on offer. One of the most popular of these locales is Desaru, a coastal resort region with so much to experience from stunning beaches, to attractions such as The Els Club Malaysia, one of the golf courses in Johor.
The location of Desaru is fairly centralised since it is very close to Singapore, and also easily accessible through the Senai-Desaru Expressway. One can also reach Desaru by boat.

Most people come to this coastal town because of the beaches. The coast of Desaru isn’t as congested or littered with a plethora of restaurants and resorts which is the case in many coastal regions of Malaysia. Although finding accommodation is bound to be easy, the beaches are quiet and pristine.

If you’re looking to sample some great Johor cuisine ranging from traditional Malysian food to interesting takes on fast-food from local chains, the Medan Selera Desa Food Court would be an essential stop. The food is indulgent and affordable.

Although Scuba-Diving generally doesn’t commonly take place around Desaru, snorkelling is very popular, and a great way to enjoy the wonders beneath the clear waters. It may come as no surprise that surfing is also a popular activity that takes place at the Desaru coast.

For a more unique experience, one should definitely check out the Desaru Ostrich Farm. There are more than 300 ostriches residing in the farm and children are even able to ride them under the guidance of an expert. There are also various products you can buy ranging from jerky to ostrich eggs and a selection of leather products.

Be sure not to miss out an incredible excursion to the glamorous Desaru Coast.
